THE ROLE

Reporting to the President & CEO of UTMC, the Senior Vice President, Chief People Officer (CPO) is a strategic leadership role overseeing all human resources functions within the academic health system. The CPO will shape and implement the organizations human capital strategy, aligning workforce initiatives with the systems mission, vision, and strategic goals. As a key member of the executive team, the CPO will collaborate with clinical, academic, and administrative leaders to foster a culture of excellence, engagement, innovation, and well-being. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading HR strategies in complex healthcare or academic environments, with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within an academic health system.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/TRAITS

  • 10 to 15 years of experience at the ELT or senior academic department leadership level in a comparable size healthcare facility.
  • Proven effectiveness in leading human resources initiatives with broad medical services knowledge.
  • Successful track record of developing effective relationships with medical staff and healthcare administration.
  • Strong collaboration skills, endorsing UHSs mission, vision, and values.
  • High ethical standards in business practices.
  • Supportive of organizational goals and adaptable to change.
  • Effective communication of organizational goals in a positive manner.
  • Ability to lead initiatives and encourage participation.
  • Quickly builds relationships and trust.
  • Strategic thinker with high emotional intelligence.
  • Capable of resolving complex issues and sharing expertise within the health system.
