Marine Superintendents at Cajun are pivotal to the success of our marine projects. The Marine Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all operations on the barge, ensuring that marine construction activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications and maritime regulations. This role involves supervising crew members, coordinating logistics, and maintaining equipment and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all piling operations including loading/unloading, and anchoring, positioning, and marine construction activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and maritime regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain barge stability, ballast and structural integrity.
  • Liaise with project managers, marine engineers, and other stake holders to ensure smooth execution of projects.
  • Manage barge crews’ schedules, training, and performance.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of barge equipment, cranes, winches, and other machinery.
  • Prepare and maintain operational reports, logs, and documentation.
  • Respond to emergencies and implement safety protocols as needed.
  • Monitor project budgets, control costs and implement execution strategies to support project budgets.
  • Lead, mentor and develop foreman, journeymen and laborers supporting Cajun’s culture of continuous improvement and growth.
  • Ensure all work meets or exceeds quality standards and coordinate with quality assurance teams to address any issues promptly.
  • Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a supervisor in Marine Construction
  • Bachelors’ degree in construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus
  • Proven experience in marine construction, offshore operations, or barge management.
  • Strong understanding of marine construction methods, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret marine charts, construction drawings, and technical documents.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • In depth knowledge of safe work practices in marine construction and personal commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

Physical

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., but may occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Hearing and comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions
  • Will need to perform sedentary to heavy work
  • Will operate office equipment of all types
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
  • Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, reaching overhead, squatting, sitting or standing and lifting
  • Must be able to manipulate and traverse uneven terrain, ladders, and multi-floor buildings with no elevator
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc.
  • Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (Heat, Cold, Rain, Etc.)
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to drive cars/trucks as needed

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervision and field workers
  • Talking and reading & writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy
  • Ability to use math/complete calculations
  • Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions
  • Decision making skills necessary
  • Detail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details
  • Requires strong leadership and motivational skills
