The Engineering intern supports manufacturing in collaboration with the Manufacturing Engineer by applying engineering discipline, troubleshooting expertise, and safety principles as applicable to NNBC’s operations. This position works with production, quality, facilities, sales, and other functions as appropriate to troubleshoot issues, evaluate manufacturing processes and equipment, improve manufacturing efficiency, assure product and process quality and safety, and work with experts and vendors to design, fabricate, and assemble equipment and tooling in support of new and existing operations.

If you're a college student studying Mechanical engineering, Applied engineering, or Industrial engineering, you would be well-suited for this role. You will work on some projects as part of a team and eventually work independently on other projects after you are familiar with our processes.

Full-time summer internship, with the ability to stay on during the fall semester. Candidates must go to school and live locally for consideration. Paid internship.

National Novelty Brush Company, located at 505 E. Fulton Street, Lancaster is in need of a PT Mechanical Engineering intern. Flexible on the hours, M-F. This individual will support the senior engineer with some of the following duties:

• Exercise Research and Development of new products, tooling, equipment, fixtures and processes.

• Maintain current designs and develop new product design and drawing documentation utilizing SolidWorks. Assist with distribution of drawings to appropriate departments as required.

• Actively trouble-shoot product tool designs, tooling, equipment, as well as to direct/assist sub-suppliers in conjunction with MRO.

• Conduct design review and manage preliminary testing of new product, tooling, equipment, fixtures and processes with “Design for Manufacturability” mind set.

• Document and maintain SOP’s for manufacturing operations and other documents related to equipment maintenance and operations engineering.

• Communicate both verbally and in writing so as to interact and work closely with other departments, including but not limited to Quality & Engineering Services.

• Work together with members of Engineering Services to provide estimates of manufacturing costs for new products, equipment, tooling and processes.

• Plan, implement and coordinate improvements to existing equipment and processes (Continuous Improvement Process).

• Research new technologies and manufacturing methods, part and assembly design, drafting, machining of prototypes, sourcing of parts, inspection of prototype parts, prototype testing and failure analysis.

• Implement and coordinate changes to existing molding/metal tools by writing and seeking approval ECN (Engineering Change Notice).

• Assist in developing PFMEA (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and dynamic control plans with manufacturing as required.

Computer Skills: MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Solidworks experience required.

Other Requirements: • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and blueprint reading preferred.

• Hands on machine shop experience preferred.
