Position On-Call Liturgical Musician • Part-time, 5-10 hours per week. Reporting to the Director of Liturgy and Music. Hiring range $51.82 per hour; compensation will be based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity. Pay frequency: Hourly. Position Purpose The Liturgical Musician is responsible for providing music for the Sunday masses in the Mission Church. This is a part-time position. Responsibilities Provide liturgical music support for Sunday masses and special university liturgies. Select music appropriate to the liturgical season and worshiping community, generally from Breaking Bread and Spirit & Song hymnals published by Oregon Catholic Press. Accompany and/or sing (solo or as part of an ensemble). Conduct choir rehearsals and performances. Assist in planning, management, and recruitment of new choir members. Prepare music binders or iPads for all singers and instrumentalists. Support the coordination of liturgical ministers. Execute other duties as assigned. General Guidelines Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services. Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices. Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools, planned training, and performance initiatives. Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow. Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of all operational functions. Prepares and submits reports as requested and required. Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment. Knowledge — Strong understanding of Roman Catholic liturgy and rites. Familiarity with the 1963 Second Vatican Council document, Sacrosanctum Concilium (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy). Comprehension of basic music theory. Skills — Proficiency in piano/keyboard, guitar, or another suitable instrument. Versatile vocal ability (solo and choral) to lead congregational song and self-accompany in a variety of musical styles. Proficiency in reading musical notation. Competency in leading and directing an adult choir. Basic knowledge of iPad, iOS applications, and forScore for digital sheet music. Abilities — Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and ability to be self-directed. Ability to work non-traditional hours. Ability to collaborate well with volunteer ministers, Campus Ministry and Mission Church staff, and clergy. Education — Undergraduate degree preferred. Private instruction in piano and voice. Experience — 2+ years of experience in music ministry; reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation preferred; love, respect, and understanding of the Catholic Church.
