Job Description

Wayfair Fulfillment Optimization Engineer

At Wayfair, we love solving complex business problems with technology to serve our millions of customers, to sell and deliver a catalog of millions of products, and to continue growing at a rapid pace - a journey enabled by more than 4,000 Wayfair engineers.

The Fulfillment Optimization team builds the platforms that determine how customer orders are fulfilled, optimizing for Wayfair profitability and customer delight. A big part of our work revolves around enhancing and scaling customer-facing platforms that provide fulfillment information on our websites, starting at the top of the customer funnel on the search pages all the way through orders being delivered. Throughout this customer journey, we are responsible for maintaining an accurate representation of our dynamic supply chain, determining how different products will fit into boxes, predicting how these boxes will flow through warehouses and trucks, and ultimately surfacing the information our customers need to inform their decision and the details our suppliers and carriers require to successfully execute on the promises made to our customers. We do all of this in milliseconds, thousands of times per second.

We are looking for a passionate engineer who loves to solve complex problems, learns fast, and shares knowledge to join our team and help us build, scale and optimize the systems responsible for handling fulfillment information across the funnel.

If you love to solve real business problems at scale, in a fast-paced, high growth, and agile environment, this is the role for you.

What You'll Do:
  • Be a technical leader within and across the teams you work with.
  • Drive high impact architectural decisions and hands-on development, including inception, design, execution, and delivery following good design and coding practices.
  • Obsessively focus on production readiness for the team including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation and proactive troubleshooting.
  • Identify risks and gaps in technical approaches and propose solutions to meet team and project goals.
  • Create proposals and action plans to garner support across the organization.
  • Influence and contribute to the team's strategy and roadmap.
  • Tenacity for learning - curious, and constantly pushing the boundary of what is possible.
  • Ability to manage and resolve conflict - you have the ability to listen, present, and question effectively.
  • Help grow other engineers technically by mentoring, pairing, and developing other opportunities for education.
  • Be externally recognized as a credible technical and product subject matter expert for the broader team's focus area.
  • Continuously rethink and reevaluate the status quo, even when it argues with your/our past ideas.
  • Ability to pick up any programming language and deliver.
What You Need:
  • Broad experience architecting and implementing robust, distributed web applications (7+ years or equivalent track-record).
  • Track-record of technical leadership for teams following software development best practices (e.g. SOLID, TDD, GRASP, YAGNI, etc).
  • Track-record of being a hands-on developer efficiently building technically sound systems.
  • Experience building web services with .NET Core and C#.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration (CI/CD) practices and tools (Buildkite, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Experience architecting solutions leveraging distributed infrastructure (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, etc).
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Aerospike, Redis.
  • Experience leveraging monitoring and logging technologies (e.g. DataDog, Elasticsearch, InfluxDB, etc).
  • Experience with debugging and scaling production infrastructure and services.
  • Capability to collaborate across the wider organization, influence even without direct authority with an inclusive, adaptable and persuasive communication style.
What You'll Get:
  • Extensive career and growth opportunities in a fast-growing technology & retail powerhouse
  • Training & development, including world-class mentoring and tuition reimbursement for education relevant to your career
  • Subsidized gym membership, free yoga classes and wellness weeks
  • Subsidized public transport subscription
  • Discounts on Wayfair sites for employee purchases
  • Participation in conferences & meetups we organize and sponsor
