Job Description

A middle school in Saint Clair Shores, MI is seeking qualified Special Education Teachers for full-time contract roles for the current school year. These positions require specialized knowledge in both general education content and special education, supporting students with various learning needs.

Two distinct positions are available:

Position 1: English Language Arts Special Education Teacher

• Required certifications: BA in English (ELA), Language Arts (BX) if appropriate for the middle school grade band, or Reading (BT)
• Must hold at least one special education endorsement among Autism (SV), Cognitive Impairment (SA), Emotional Impairment (SE), or Learning Disabilities (SM)

Position 2: Math Special Education Teacher

• Required certification: Mathematics (EX)
• Must hold at least one special education endorsement among Autism (SV), Cognitive Impairment (SA), Emotional Impairment (SE), or Learning Disabilities (SM)

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a full caseload of approximately 20 students with special education needs
• Teach 5 classes, including potentially one co-taught class and one advisory period
• Fulfill a daily schedule of 7 hours and 15 minutes, including a 30-minute duty-free lunch
• Perform assigned duties before and/or after school as directed by the principal
• Deliver differentiated instruction aligned with individual education plans (IEPs) for middle school students

Qualifications:

• Appropriate teaching certifications as described above
• Experience working in special education within a middle school setting preferred
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and families
