Job Description
We are currently seeking experienced and reliable Shipfitter Welders to join our team. This position requires strong skills in steel fitting and structural welding, with the ability to work from blueprints and ship drawings. TIG welding experience is a major plus and highly desired for specialized work involving stainless steel, aluminum, or copper-nickel components.
Key Responsibilities:
Layout, cut, fit, and assemble steel and aluminum components in accordance with shipbuilding blueprints and technical drawings.
Perform structural welding using processes such as SMAW (stick) , FCAW (flux-core) , and GMAW (MIG) .
TIG weld on stainless steel, aluminum, and copper-nickel piping or outfitting.
Position and secure parts using clamps, tack welds, and measuring tools to ensure proper alignment.
Install bulkheads, frames, foundations, brackets, and other ship structures in drydock or onboard vessels.
Operate hand and power tools, including torches, grinders, saws, and plasma cutters.
Inspect finished work to verify conformance to specifications; perform rework as needed.
Work collaboratively with other trades to ensure project timelines are met.
Follow all shipyard safety policies, OSHA standards, and welding procedures.
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience as a shipfitter welder in a shipyard or heavy industrial setting.
Ability to read and interpret ship construction drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
Proficient in structural welding processes; TIG welding experience highly desirable.
Must be able to pass weld tests in required positions (e.g., 2G, 3G, 4G).
Familiar with ABS, USCG, or NAVSEA standards preferred.
Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and at heights.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
TIG welding certification or verifiable on-the-job TIG experience.
Familiarity with aluminum or copper-nickel weld techniques.
OSHA 10/30 Maritime Safety Card or equivalent.
Prior experience on naval or commercial ship projects.
