Job Summary

Drives diesel powered tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver wood shavings to turkey farms.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

· Conducts pre and post trip inspections to determine the trucks condition and ensure that everything is in proper running order

· Delivers shavings to turkey farms daily in a safe and efficient manner

· Backs tractor trailer into turkey farms and loading areas

· Maintains a good driving record

· Assists other workers in the department by helping to load and unload trucks

· Maintains ability to adjust to errors and complaints

· Follows instructions daily

· Maintains updated and legal CDL

· Follows company policies

· Uses and applies common sense to handle certain situations

· Resolves problems which occur on turkey farms when supervision is not available

· Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Valid North Carolina Class A CDL

· Department of Transportation Certified Medical Certificate

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.

· Ability to operate a tractor-trailer truck in tight places with low visibility

· Ability to make decisions on backing, turning, entering and exiting farms.

· Ability to operate trucks on narrow, dimly-lighted roads

Education & Experience

· Class A Commercial Driver’s License and at least one year experience

· Requires specialized skills that are normally learned through combinations of directly relevant vocational training and job experience.  

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to vibration.
